The Dorfchemnitz Iron Hammer is one of only four historic hammer works left in Saxony that still function as they once did centuries ago. This modest but genuinely atmospheric site takes you back to the days when water power drove the hammers forging tools for miners around Freiberg.

The forge sits picturesquely in the valley of the Chemnitzbach stream, whose waters have powered mills and hammer works here for centuries. The setting is quiet and intimate - a narrow valley, the sound of water rushing through the millrace, and timber buildings that evoke the old craft traditions of the Ore Mountains. In summer, the surrounding forests and meadows invite walks, while in winter, snow lends the spot a rugged, wintry charm.
