Hidden in the quiet Plexgrund valley near Schönfels, this small tree-covered island in a pond marks the remains of a medieval motte-and-bailey castle. It's a place for travelers who enjoy uncovering forgotten history away from crowds and signposted attractions.

The distinctive mound, roughly 15 by 16 metres, rises like an island surrounded by a moat that today forms part of the Talmühlteich pond. The setting is peaceful and picturesque, with damp green valley floor, gentle flowing water and shade from old trees creating a calm atmosphere perfect for a slow stroll. In spring and summer the surrounding vegetation is lush, autumn brings reflections of colourful foliage on the pond's surface, and in winter the outline of the old fortification becomes more visible through bare trees.
