Spiegelwald (727 m a.s.l.) is a rewarding viewpoint summit in the Saxon Ore Mountains, combining sweeping mountain panoramas, a historic observation tower, and a welcoming mountain inn — all within easy reach of the surrounding towns. It's the kind of place you'll want to linger at longer than planned.

The views from the König-Albert-Turm stretch across the Ore Mountains ridge and down into the picturesque Schwarzwasser Valley near Schwarzenberg. The forested hillsides bring a different charm in every season — fresh greens in spring, cool shade and beer garden vibes in summer, blazing autumn colours, and quiet snow-covered trails in winter. The terrain is gentle, making this a great outing for families and casual hikers alike.

• Starting from Schwarzenberg or the Grünhain-Beierfeld area — marked hiking trails lead up through forest; difficulty: easy to moderate.

• The 40-metre König-Albert-Turm observation tower offers a viewing platform at 31.5 m — accessible via 180 steps or a disability-friendly lift.
• The Spiegelwaldbaude mountain inn with beer garden and sun terrace is open at the summit (in operation since 2008).

The tower has a genuinely royal history: King Albert of Saxony laid its foundation stone in person on 9 July 1880 and returned to inaugurate it on 11 September 1881 — quite the endorsement for a hilltop hike.
