The ASTRA Museum of Traditional Folk Civilization is one of the largest open-air museums in Europe, and a must-see if you love traditional architecture, craftsmanship and rural history. Set among the forests of Dumbrava Sibiului, it recreates pre-industrial Romanian village life through windmills, watermills and houses gathered from across the country.

At the heart of the museum lies a lake of about 6 hectares, around which houses, workshops and building complexes are scattered beneath the trees. The whole site covers roughly 96 hectares, crossed by about 10 kilometers of paths, making it easy to spend a full day wandering between thatched cottages and old workshops. In summer the shaded paths are cool and green, autumn brings rich colors, and winter transforms the site into a quiet, snow-covered retreat perfect for a peaceful walk.

Interestingly, services are still held today in the wooden churches from Bezded and Dretea, keeping the museum's traditions truly alive rather than just preserved.
