Viștea Mare (2,524 m a.s.l.) is Romania's third highest peak and one of the most strategic summits in the entire Făgăraș range. It sits right next to Moldoveanu — the country's highest point — and together they form a striking trapezoid silhouette that Romanians affectionately call the 'Roof of Romania', visible from far and wide.

The landscape up here is raw and sweeping — jagged ridgelines stretching in both directions, plunging valley slopes, and in summer, high alpine meadows carpeted with wildflowers. The atmosphere shifts dramatically with the seasons: sunny and expansive in July and August, harsh and snow-covered well into spring. This is proper high-mountain terrain, and it rewards those who come prepared with some of the finest ridge walking in the Carpathians.
