Bukhtivets Waterfall is one of the most rewarding natural surprises in the Ukrainian Carpathians. The stream accelerates through a narrow, trough-like gorge before splitting into two jets that plunge nearly vertically some 8 metres down — a sight that impresses in every season.

Nestled in the Gorgany massif near the village of Bukove, the waterfall sits within a wild and strikingly beautiful landscape. After the drop, the stream continues through a narrow, canyon-like valley flanked by tall, sheer flysch rock walls. Spring brings the waterfall to its most powerful, summer keeps the spot cool and refreshing, and winter transforms the cascade into dramatic ice sculptures. Just 50 metres away you'll find the smaller Krapelkovy (Droplet) Waterfall, and 300 metres further upstream lies the Upper Bukhtivets Waterfall at 3.5 m — so a single trip rewards you with three waterfalls.

The waterfall owes its distinctive twin-jet shape to the flysch rock it cuts through — the hard, layered geology forces the water into a narrow chute before launching it into free fall.
