The Povârgina Wooden Church is a modest yet charming historic site tucked among the hills of Banat, surrounded by centuries-old forests. Built in 1782, it once served as the spiritual heart of a small village, and its story is wrapped in a local legend about a hidden treasure.

The village of Povârgina lies 10 km northwest of the town of Făget, nestled among hills covered with ancient woodland. It's a peaceful, rural spot where the silence is broken only by birdsong and rustling leaves. The church stands on a small rise in the middle of the village cemetery, overlooking the settlement from the north - the view takes in the village rooftops and the rolling, forested hills of Banat. Autumn and spring bring vivid colors, summer offers the shade of old trees, and winter brings the quiet, gentle mountain atmosphere typical of Banat.

According to local legend, the church was built out of gratitude by villager Ion Medescu, who found a treasure and decided to fund a church in thanks - his portrait in festive dress was once preserved on the western wall of the narthex.
