Rising above the Moravian countryside on twin 68-metre towers, the Basilica of Velehrad is the most important pilgrimage church in the Czech Republic and one of the most spiritually charged places in Central Europe. The basilica blends a Romanesque-Gothic skeleton with an exuberantly baroque interior — Eckstein's ceiling frescoes in the main nave create the illusion of three extra storeys of open sky, while the dome above the crossing soars 25 metres overhead. The surrounding monastery complex and well-kept cloisters invite you to slow down and take it all in.
