Veľký Lopeník (911 m a.s.l.) is one of the most distinctive summits in the White Carpathians — a bold, forested peak straddling the Slovak-Czech border, topped with a 22-metre oak observation tower that rewards hikers with sweeping views over both countries. It is the highest point of the Lopenícka hornatina sub-range and the fourth highest peak in the entire White Carpathians.

The massif is covered in mixed forest, broken up by meadows and pastures that are typical of the traditional 'kopanice' landscape — a region of scattered hilltop farmsteads unique to this corner of the Carpathians. Spring brings wildflower-covered clearings, summer offers a cool and breezy escape, and autumn turns the hillsides into a blaze of colour. At the top you will find not only the tower but also a covered pavilion, benches and information boards — everything you need for a relaxed pause after the climb.

• From Veľká Javorina along the main ridge — green-marked trail, running via the valleys of Strání and Březová on the Czech side — moderate difficulty
• From Nová Bošáca (Slovakia) — blue-marked trail, climbing directly up through the kopanice hamlets — moderate difficulty

• The summit sits exactly on the Slovak-Czech border — trails approach from both sides; no border formalities apply within the Schengen Area
• A monument and a common grave of 22 Red Army soldiers who fell in fierce fighting here at the end of World War II stands at the top
• The observation tower is free to enter and open to the public

The current oak tower, designed by Zlín architect Svatopluk Sládečka, was ceremonially opened on 16 July 2005 — it is actually the fourth structure on this spot, replacing a line of wooden predecessors dating back to 1944.
