The Plisce mountain hut is a small hideaway in the Eastern Carpathians with roots going back to 1934, rebuilt by a dedicated group of volunteers who wanted to revive the region's pre-war hiking traditions. This is not a commercial lodge - it is a shelter built by hikers, for hikers, largely by hand and with donated materials.

Situated on the Plisce meadow beneath Mount Grofa, within the 'Grofa' landscape reserve, the hut sits amid untouched Carpathian forest. In summer the surrounding pastures open up quiet, green views; in winter the area turns into a hushed, snow-covered wilderness reachable only under your own steam. The wooden building, built in traditional Boyko style with a stone foundation, has a simple, rustic charm shaped by two decades of grassroots restoration work.

• From the village of Osmoloda - about 9 km on foot, moderate difficulty, time depends on fitness and season
• The route passes through the 'Grofa' landscape reserve, so plan enough daylight for the return trip

• Current hut rebuilt in 2005 on the site of a former 1960s hunting lodge
• Maintained on a volunteer basis by the 'Carpathian Trails' foundation
• Equipped with stoves (including bulerian-type stoves installed in 2014) and sleeping spaces on the upper floor and attic
• No permanent staff or food service - this is a self-sufficient, unstaffed shelter

Fun fact: the original 1930s hut on Plisce, built by the 'Plai' society, was the very first Ukrainian recreational building in the region - its spirit lives on in today's hut, rebuilt piece by piece by volunteers over almost two decades.
