Tucked away at the far end of the Great Cold Valley (Veľká Studená dolina) in the Tatras, Zbójnicka Chata is the kind of mountain hut that feels like a genuine reward. It sits in wild, dramatic surroundings far from the busier lower trails, and it welcomes visitors all year round — making it a special destination no matter the season.

The landscape here is raw and magnificent: rocky walls, glacial cirques and the mountain tarns that inspired the hut's evocative name. In summer the valley is lush and peaceful, in autumn it glows with colour, and in winter it transforms into a frozen world beloved by skiers and climbers alike. After a long day on the trail, the hut's fireplace offers a warm welcome, while the terrace opens up sweeping views down the valley.

The hut takes its name from the 'zbójnicy' — the legendary outlaws said to have roamed this remote valley in centuries past, leaving their mark on the local tarns and, eventually, on the hut itself. The site has hosted mountain travellers since 1907, though today's building was rebuilt after a devastating fire in June 1998 and reopened in October 2001.
