Perched at 1,550 m above sea level on the shores of the Green Kežmarok Lake in the Slovak High Tatras, the Green Lake Hut is one of the most atmospheric mountain refuges in the entire range. The Zelené pleso valley wraps around the hut with dramatic rocky ridges and alpine meadows that change with every season — lush and wildflower-dotted in summer, painted in rust and gold in autumn, and strikingly wild under winter snow. Originally opened in 1897 and named 'Frigyes-ménhaz' in honour of Archduke Friedrich of Habsburg, the hut has been shaped by generations of outstanding mountaineers and Olympic athletes who served as its keepers — a legacy that gives this place a very special spirit.
