Nestled on the Starolesnianska Poľana meadow in the High Tatras, Rainerova chata is one of the oldest mountain huts in the entire Tatra range. Built back in 1865, this charming stone shelter has survived wars, snowstorms and decades of neglect to become one of the most beloved huts in the mountains — and visiting it feels like stepping into living history.

Sitting at 1,301 metres above sea level, the hut enjoys a peaceful setting surrounded by open meadows with views of the Tatra peaks. In summer the area is lush and green, perfect for a relaxed stop on a longer hike; in winter it transforms into a snowy fairy-tale scene. The trail from Hrebienok is gentle and well-maintained — unusually, it is even accessible for wheelchair users — making this a rare mountain destination that truly welcomes everyone.

Every year around Epiphany, the hut keeper builds a spectacular nativity scene from snow and ice in front of the hut, drawing hundreds of visitors and a folklore group from Lendak — a magical winter tradition that has become a High Tatras institution in its own right.
