Tucked beneath the southeastern slopes of Slavkovský Peak in the High Tatras, Bilíkova chata — affectionately nicknamed 'Bilíčka' by the locals — is one of those mountain refuges that feels instantly welcoming. Easy to reach, open all year round, and brimming with authentic Tatra character, it makes the perfect base for exploring this spectacular corner of Slovakia.

The hut sits on a natural terrace called Kancel, just a short walk from Hrebienok, and the surrounding landscape rewards visitors in every season. In summer, the nearby valleys of Malá Studená dolina and Veľká Studená dolina invite longer hikes deeper into the mountains. Autumn brings a blaze of colour across the dwarf pine slopes, while winter transforms the area into a snowy wonderland — popular with cross-country skiers and snowshoers alike. The atmosphere here is calm and unhurried, with the sound of Studený potok stream never far away.

The hut was renamed in 1946 in honour of Pavel Bilík (1916–1944), a Slovak skier and member of the Slovak National Uprising who was captured by the Germans near Starý Smokovec and executed in Kežmarok — a poignant reminder that these mountains carry stories far beyond their beauty.
