Zawory Pass (1,879 m) is a remote mountain saddle tucked deep in the heart of the Tatra Mountains, connecting the wild Tichá Valley and the Kôprová Valley. If you are looking for untouched alpine scenery and genuine silence, this is the place for you.

Sitting on the border between the Western and Eastern Tatras, between Hladký štít and Tichý vrch, the pass rewards visitors with rugged, sweeping views of long glacial valleys on both sides. The terrain is open and dramatic — rocky ridges, alpine meadows and dense dwarf pine slopes. Snow lingers here well into late spring, summer brings peaceful solitude, and autumn paints the hillsides in warm golden hues. Both valleys flanking the pass are protected national nature reserves, which keeps the landscape beautifully pristine.

• From Podbanské and Tri studničky — red trail, then blue trail along the Kôprová Valley past Kmeť's Waterfall, then green trail through Kobylia Valley to the pass; long route, low technical difficulty.
• From Tichá Valley — yellow trail, connecting to the red trail at Liptovský košiar shepherds' hut, leading up to the pass; also long but gentle.

• Both approach valleys are national nature reserves — please stay on marked trails at all times.
• Best season: July to September. Routes are very long, so an early start is strongly recommended.

Interesting fact: Slovaks originally called this pass 'Priehyba', and the exact origin of the current name 'Závory' remains unclear — it most likely referred to the 'closing off' or 'barring' of the valley's end.
