Upłazkowy Przechód is a narrow, inconspicuous notch tucked into the ridge of Upłazkowa Turnia, hidden in the side reaches of the Kościeliska Valley. It is a spot for those seeking the wilder, less-visited corners of the Western Tatras, where silence and rugged terrain matter more than easy trails.

The notch lies between Upłazkowy Ząb and Upłazkowy Kopiniak, separating Pisaniarski Żleb from Wąwóz Kraków. To the north, a gentle, grassy traverse descends toward Pisaniarski Żleb, running above the wall of Upłazkowy Kopiniak. To the south, the terrain steepens sharply, dropping through a rocky-grassy gully into the Upłazkowy Kotł. It is a raw, rocky landscape typical of the wildest corners of the Western Tatras — grassy slopes and dwarf pine thickets dominate in summer, while winter brings icy, steep rock sections demanding real caution.

• Kościeliska Valley — this route requires good orientation skills and mountain experience, off marked tourist trails, difficult and demanding approach

Practical information

• This area is not suited for casual hikers — access is mainly for climbers and those with mountaineering experience
• A climbing route of grade II (Tatra scale) runs through the gully below the notch

The climbing route was first ascended by Władysław Cywiński on 26 August 1995, and just a few months later, in December of the same year, the first winter ascent was made here — proof that even such an unassuming spot has its own mountaineering history.
