Perched atop Kab-hegy, the highest peak of the Southern Bakony, the Kinizsi Pál Lookout Tower rises over 9 meters into the sky. Opened in 2013, this relatively young landmark has quickly become a favorite stop for visitors seeking sweeping views across the region.

Kab-hegy itself is a broad, cone-shaped mountain capped with Pliocene-era basalt, formed by lava flows that covered the ancient limestone and dolomite terrain. Unlike similar volcanic hills in the Balaton Uplands, Kab-hegy never became an isolated witness mountain, since the lava settled on erosion-resistant dolomite rather than easily worn layers. The atmosphere shifts with the seasons - lush green forests in summer, golden hues in autumn, and a quiet, snow-dusted stillness in winter, all visible from the tower's vantage point.

How to reach the viewpoint

• By road via route 73 114, a 4.8 km paved road branching off road 7308 (between Ajka and Nagyvázsony) at kilometer marker 16.600, south of Úrkút
• The route is accessible by car, making it a convenient and easy option for families and casual visitors

Practical information

• The summit also hosts two TV transmission towers - the taller one built in 1962 stands 219 meters high, while a smaller, now-disused 133-meter tower stands nearby
• The Kinizsi Pál Lookout Tower offers a more approachable and photogenic alternative to the imposing transmission masts

The tower is named after Pál Kinizsi, a legendary Hungarian military commander, adding a touch of historical flavor to this geologically unique summit.
