Ciężka Przełączka is a narrow, hard-to-reach notch in the northern ridge of Rysy, known mainly to mountaineers traversing the ridge rather than casual hikers. It's a spot for those seeking the truly wild, high-alpine character of the Tatras, far from the crowds.

The pass sits at roughly 2205 m, separating Spadowa Kopa from Żabi Szczyt Wyżni, more precisely from Spadowa Turniczka and Wyżnia Spadowa Przełączka. This ridge divides the Rybi Potok Valley from the Slovak Bielovodská Valley, and the Polish-Slovak border runs along it. The surroundings are rugged and rocky, with partly grassy slopes descending toward Dolinka Spadowa on the eastern side and the Spadowy Żleb gully on the Polish side. The views here are a real reward for experienced climbers - a sweeping panorama of surrounding peaks and high mountain valleys.

How to reach the viewpoint

• Via the north-western gully - grade I, a short section of grade III in the Tatra scale, approx. 30 min
• From Dolinka Spadowa - grade 0-, approx. 30 min

Practical information

• Accessible only to those with mountaineering experience; this is not a marked hiking trail
• Hard to reach from the western side, so it's rarely used as a connection between neighboring valleys
• Most often visited when descending after climbing the western pillar of Spadowa Kopa

The pass was formerly known as Czeska Przełączka. The first recorded summer ascent took place in 1909, and the first winter ascent in 1949, reflecting its demanding, alpine character.
