Ciemnosmreczyńska Przełączka is a narrow, secluded notch on the main ridge of the Tatra Mountains, tucked right beside Zadni Mnich peak. It's a place for climbers rather than casual hikers, offering a raw rocky landscape and views into two separate valleys on either side of the border.

The pass separates Ciemnosmreczyńska Turnia from Zadni Mnich and is notably shallow and narrow. On the Slovak side, the southern slopes descend more gently into the Piarżysta Valley, while on the Polish side a steep, crumbling wall drops toward a wide scree depression leading to Zadni Mnichowy Piarg. The surroundings have a stark, high-mountain character - bare rock and scree dominate, creating a wild, intimate atmosphere in summer, while winter conditions can be demanding and hazardous due to snow.

How to reach the viewpoint

• No marked hiking trail leads here - access is only for climbers, from the Ciemnosmreczyńska Valley or the Valley Behind Mnich, usually via the nearby Przełączka pod Zadnim Mnichem
• Direct approach from the north - easy climbing route (grade 0), about 15 minutes
• From the Piarżysta Valley - easy climbing route (grade 0), about 30 minutes

The first recorded summer ascent was made by Janusz Chmielowski with guides Klemens Bachleda and Józef Tatar in 1898, followed by the first winter crossing in 1910 - a spot with a long history of Tatra mountaineering exploration.
