Waldbad Neuwürschnitz is a charming forest lake resort in the Ore Mountains, where a former fish pond has transformed into a lively recreation hub. It is a place where mining history blends with lakeside relaxation, and an outdoor stage still hosts summer cinema and concerts under the stars.

The roughly 4-hectare lake sits within a peaceful, wooded setting - in summer, grassy shores fill with families, while evenings draw crowds for open-air cinema and amateur theatre. In autumn and winter, the surrounding forest and former quarry grounds offer quiet walks away from the crowds, echoing the site's turbulent past, marked by the 1901 flood.

How to get there

• From Oelsnitz/Erzgebirge or Neuwürschnitz - easy access via local roads, about 10-15 minutes by car
• The Karlsroute cycle path runs directly through the site, with a dedicated rest stop for cyclists

Fun fact: today's lake is the former Great Steinhübel Pond, which disappeared after a catastrophic dam breach in 1901 and was only rebuilt as a swimming lake decades later.
