Nestled in the heart of the Little Carpathians, Buková Reservoir is a charming escape where forested hillsides meet calm water. Whether you come for fishing, a lakeside stroll, or simply to breathe in the mountain air, this quiet corner of western Slovakia has a way of drawing you back.

The reservoir sits in the Buková Furrow near the village of Buková and supplies water to surrounding villages including Plavecký Peter and Plavecký Mikuláš. In summer the shores come alive with weekend visitors, anglers, and the smell of barbecues drifting from the many cottages dotted around the banks. Autumn transforms the surrounding hills into a blaze of gold and amber, making it arguably the most beautiful season to visit. Rising directly above the reservoir is Záruby, the highest peak of the Little Carpathians — a tempting objective for anyone who wants to stretch their legs a little further.

Just beside the summit of Záruby stand the ruins of Ostrý Kameň castle, once the summer residence of Count Pálfý — a rewarding historical detour after your walk around the reservoir.
