Třtěnské stráně is a small but fascinating nature reserve in the Czech Central Uplands, known for its striking white slopes and moist spring-fed hillsides. It's a rewarding spot for anyone interested in unusual plant life and quiet, off-the-beaten-path nature walks.

The landscape combines dry, warmth-loving grasslands with damp seepage areas along the slopes, creating an unusual mix of halophilic and xerothermic plant species within a compact area. In spring and summer the meadows come alive with butterflies, while the surrounding hills of the Central Uplands provide a scenic backdrop. Autumn brings golden hues to the grasses, and in winter the reserve is peaceful and rarely visited, perfect for a quiet walk.

How to get there

• From the village of Třtěno (part of Chožov) — head northeast on foot, approx. 20-30 minutes, easy route
• Alternative approach from nearby villages within the Chožov municipality via local field paths

• The area is managed by the České středohoří Protected Landscape Area Administration
• The reserve's area was reduced in 2013 from 19.16 ha to 12.99 ha, with a 10.71 ha buffer zone
• Protected for its rare halophilic and xerothermic plant species
• Visitors are advised to stay on marked paths due to the sensitivity of the habitats

This is one of the few places in the Czech Republic where you can find sea plantain (Plantago maritima) and marsh arrowgrass, species normally associated with coastal habitats rather than inland Central Europe.
