The Euba Dam is a small, atmospheric reservoir tucked away in Euba, an eastern district of Chemnitz, offering a quiet escape steeped in industrial history. Built over a century ago, this stone dam and its half-forgotten lake have a distinctive, slightly wild character that rewards curious visitors.

Constructed between 1911 and 1914 to supply water to steam locomotives at the Chemnitz-Hilbersdorf railway yard, the dam wall was built from stone quarried nearby and transported by a small field railway. Today the reservoir holds only a fraction of its original water level, giving the area an overgrown, abandoned feel that many locals find charming rather than sad. The surrounding wooded slopes make for a peaceful walk in any season, while the dam wall itself, with its bolted climbing routes, adds a touch of adventure.

During the severe floods of June 2013, the reservoir filled almost to overflow, and draining it took days after the bottom outlet valve jammed — a dramatic chapter in the dam's long and eventful story.
