Lake Sromowskie is a scenic reservoir on the Dunajec River, tucked between the medieval Niedzica Castle and the charming village of Sromowce Wyżne in the Pieniny Mountains. Despite being man-made, it blends so seamlessly into the landscape that it feels like it has always been part of this corner of southern Poland. A visit here rewards you with dramatic views, fresh mountain air and a fascinating mix of nature and engineering.

The reservoir stretches 1.2 km in length and covers an area of 88 hectares, with the water surface sitting at 487 m above sea level. To the north, the water meets the Upszar massif; to the south, a hill crowned by Polana Sosny with ski lifts provides a striking backdrop. Just above the southern shore, the Popieska rock stands out clearly, with the Flaki massif visible further behind. The scenery shifts beautifully with the seasons — spring mists drift over the calm surface, summer brings lush Pieniny greenery reflected in the water, and autumn colours the surrounding forests in shades of gold and red.

A small run-of-river power plant at the Sromowce dam quietly generates up to 10 million kWh of clean electricity per year using four propeller turbines — proof that this peaceful landscape is doing more than just looking beautiful.
