The Soboth Reservoir sits high on the Koralpe mountain, right where Carinthia, Styria and Slovenia meet. It's a striking alpine lake that doubles as a hydropower reservoir and, in summer, as one of the region's favourite swimming spots.
Surrounded by dense spruce forests, the lake offers a cool, refreshing atmosphere thanks to its elevated position, a welcome escape from summer heat lower down. Nature conservation rules require the water level to stay nearly full (within one metre) from 15 June to 31 October, which is exactly why this period is best for a visit. The lake stretches about 2.6 km in length and up to 970 m in width, with clear water and quiet forested shores perfect for a lakeside walk or a swim with mountain views.

Interesting fact: when the dam was built, the old bridge over the Feistritz river was blown up, and its rubble still lies on the lakebed — resurfacing each time the reservoir is drained.
