Nestled among sandstone cliffs in the heart of Bohemian Paradise, Podtrosecká údolí is the most extensive wetland complex in the entire region — a place where canyon-like valleys, peaceful ponds and flower-rich meadows come together in a truly stunning natural mosaic.

The reserve has a wonderfully varied character. In spring, the meadows burst with cowslips, globe flowers and marsh geraniums, while the ponds come alive with the calls of grebes, teals and herons. Summer brings kingfishers flashing along the streams and rare marsh fritillary butterflies drifting over the wet grasslands. Autumn wraps the sandstone walls in golden foliage and morning mist drifts across the water, creating an almost magical atmosphere. The terrain is gentle and the paths are well marked, making this an ideal destination for families, birdwatchers and nature lovers of all abilities.

• The trail has 13 information stops covering local history, geology, flora and fauna

• The area is a protected nature reserve — please stay on marked paths and do not pick plants
• The educational trail has been in operation since 1980 and is open year-round
• The reserve protects rare species including the scarce large blue butterfly (Phengaris nausithous) and round-leaved sundew (Drosera rotundifolia)

Fun fact: the picturesque Věžický rybník pond served as a filming location for the beloved Czech comedy 'Jak dostat tatínka do polepšovny' back in 1978 — so there is a little movie magic hidden among these meadows and reeds.
