Tucked into the southern Lviv region of the Ukrainian Carpathians, Skolivski Beskydy National Nature Park is a vast, unspoilt highland of dense beech and spruce forests, tumbling waterfalls and rich wildlife. If you're looking for authentic Carpathian wilderness without the crowds, this is it.

Covering more than 35,000 hectares across the Stryi and Opir river basins, the park offers wonderfully varied terrain — steep forested ridges, deep river valleys and open clearings — ranging in altitude from around 600 m to the 1,268 m summit of Mount Parashka, the park's highest point. Seasons transform the landscape dramatically: spring carpets the forest floor with wild garlic and snowdrops, summer brings cool shade under ancient beech canopies, autumn sets the hillsides ablaze in copper and gold, and winter wraps the ridges in snow. Two waterfalls add to the drama — Hurkalo on the Velyka Richka river and the Kamianetskyi waterfall on the Kamianka river.

• Skole town (approx. 100 km from Lviv) — main gateway to the park with trails leading into the massif; moderate difficulty
• Voskhidnytsia village — starting point for the eastern part of the park, also known for its mineral water springs; easy to moderate
• Mount Parashka — accessible from several villages, typically a 3–4 hour hike one way; moderate difficulty

• The park is a protected area — collecting plants and disturbing wildlife is prohibited
• A free-roaming bison herd lives in the park, introduced in 2009–2010; sightings are possible but not guaranteed
• The historic rock fortress of Tustań lies within the park boundaries — well worth combining with a hiking visit
• Some trails may be difficult after heavy rain — check conditions before setting out

One of the park's most remarkable stories is its bison herd — 11 animals were introduced in 2009–2010, and they have since thrived and bred successfully. The park also protects 35 species listed in the Red Book of Ukraine, including mountain arnica and the common snowdrop.
