Milčanský Pond, also known as Velká Nohavice, is one of the largest ponds in the picturesque Holany Ponds system in the southern part of the Česká Lípa district. It is a place where fishing meets genuine relaxation by the water, surrounded by greenery and the calm of the Czech countryside.

The pond has an irregular, roughly oval shape with three large bays, creating a varied shoreline that is partly overgrown with reeds and partly developed for recreation. In summer the surroundings buzz with life thanks to numerous campsites and holiday cottages, while in winter the pond and the hills of the Dokesko Uplands take on a peaceful, sleepy character. Views of the nearby hills of Vlhošť and Ronov add a touch of mountain scenery to the setting.

How to get there

• From the town of Holany via a local road, also used as a cycling route - easy, about 30-40 minutes on foot
• Cycling route no. 3086 along the northern shore or no. 211 along the southern shore
• Red-marked long-distance hiking trail from Holany to Stvolínky, running through the whole Holany Ponds system, near the southern shore

• The pond is managed by Rybářství Doksy - fishing regulations apply
• Milčany campsite on the southern side of the pond (10 cottages, sanitary facilities, refreshments)
• Nearest bus stop in Holany (2 km), nearest train station in Stvolínky or Zahrádky (4 km)

Near the southern shore lie the ruins of Milčany Castle, and on an islet near the northern shore stand the ruins of a second castle, from which the pond likely takes its name.
