Matylda is an artificial recultivation lake in the northwestern part of Most, in the Souš district, born from the flooded remains of an old coal mine. Today it's a lively summer destination where locals come to swim, ride jet skis, or simply relax by the water.

The surrounding landscape is a product of post-mining recultivation - flat, open terrain with park-and-beach style shores, a stony-sandy beach and concrete piers for entering the water. In summer the atmosphere is buoyant and holiday-like, with jet skis buzzing across the surface, windsurfers catching the wind, and inline skaters circling the track around the reservoir. The lake is bordered to the north by road I/13 and to the south by the Autodrom Most racetrack, so engine noise is part of the soundscape. Outside the peak season it turns quiet and calm, with the water mirroring the surrounding hills.

How to get there

• Most, Souš district - accessible via road I/13, easy, just a few minutes' drive from the town centre
• Alternatively on foot or by bike along the access road leading to the lake

The lake's name recalls the original mine that once occupied this site back in the First Republic era - it was later renamed Vrbenský, but the lake eventually reclaimed its old name, Matylda.
