Jedyniak is a tiny, hidden pond tucked among dwarf mountain pine in the Gąsienicowa Valley, one of the Gąsienicowe Ponds that is easy to miss unless you know exactly where to look. It is a quiet, low-key spot for hikers who enjoy discovering the lesser-known corners of the Tatras, right next to a popular trail.

The pond lies in the western part of the Gąsienicowa Valley, known as the Green Gąsienicowa Valley, in the Stawiańska glade, just a few dozen steps from the main trail. Its modest size - about 12 by 11.5 meters and only 1.2 meters deep - makes it feel more like a charming puddle among the dwarf pine than a true mountain lake, but this very modesty and its hidden setting give it a special, intimate character. In summer the surrounding greenery creates a calm, peaceful atmosphere, while in winter the pond usually freezes solid all the way to the bottom, disappearing under a thick blanket of snow.

• The pond sits just a dozen or so steps off the trail, hidden among dwarf pine bushes - keep an eye out or you might walk right past it
• In winter it freezes to the bottom, and the snow layer above the ice can become very thick

Interesting fact: at the end of winter in 1953, even the mud from the bottom of the pond froze into the ice, with a snow layer above it reaching as much as 5 meters thick - a testament to how harsh Tatra winters can be.
