Dolanský Pond is the largest of several dozen ponds forming the picturesque Holany Ponds system in the southern part of the Česká Lípa district. Spanning nearly 48 hectares, this expansive body of water is a haven for anglers and nature lovers alike, offering intensive fish farming alongside peaceful lakeside walks.

The landscape here is gentle and calming, with partially wooded banks framing the wide water surface. In the distance, the distinctive hills of Vlhošť and Ronov rise above the flatlands, adding a scenic backdrop to any visit. The area supports a surprisingly rich variety of aquatic and terrestrial mollusks, including protected wetland species, making it a quietly fascinating spot for nature observation throughout the seasons.

How to get there

• From Holany - red-marked trail along the pond's northern shore, easy walk, also suitable for cyclists (route 3086)
• From Stvolínky - accessible via field roads, an alternative starting point from the western side of the pond system

• 14 species of aquatic snails and 7 species of mussels have been recorded in the pond, along with 27 species of land snails, including the protected Pupilla alpicola and Vertigo moulinsiana
• The nearest train stop is in Stvolínky, about 3 km away, on the line from Česká Lípa to Lovosice
• Intercity buses connect both Holany and Stvolínky

Nearby Holany offers several historic buildings, and the ruins of Milčany Castle are just a short distance away, rounding out a rewarding day exploring this quiet watery landscape.
