Żmij is a dome-shaped summit tucked in the heart of the Sowie Mountains — not the tallest peak around, but one that rewards you with genuine mountain quietness and lovely views away from the crowds.

The mountain has steep slopes and a rather subtle, rounded top, so the approach feels more like a gentle walk through dense spruce forest than a real climb. On the south-western slope there's a meadow used as a paragliding launch site — watching wings glide over the valley is a real treat. Just below the summit, on the southern side, you'll find a cluster of scenic rock formations worth a short detour. In winter the forest turns silent and snow-covered, while summer brings cool shade and fresh mountain air.

• Jugów — red trail (part of the Main Sudetes Trail), about 2.5 km, moderate difficulty
• Nowa Ruda / Bielawa — yellow trail, approach via the northern slope

• A viewpoint on the southern slope offers a panorama of the Jugowski Stream Valley, Wyrębińskie Hills, Włodzickie Hills, Góry Suche and the Sowie Mountains
• The entire peak lies within the Sowie Mountains Landscape Park

The old German name Ottenstein hints at the region's history, while the current name Żmij (meaning 'viper') adds a bit of mystery — though you're unlikely to actually meet any snakes here.
