Židovský vršek is a modest, forested hill rising to 326 m above sea level between the villages of Dobranov and Zákupy in northern Bohemia. It's a quiet, off-the-beaten-path spot that rewards those willing to leave the marked trails behind with surprisingly open views from its wooded summit.

The hill was formed during the Tertiary period, when volcanic material broke through layers of chalk, creating basalt fused with sandstone — the same process that shaped all the surrounding hills of the Zákupy Highlands. Meadows surround the base of the hill, while the forested massif of Mariánská výšina rises to the north. There's also a deep ravine on the western side just below the summit. Despite the tree cover on top, the views open up nicely: the wooded Mariánská výšina to the north, Ralsko and Kamenický kopec to the east, the village of Dobranov and part of the Špičák housing estate in Česká Lípa to the west, and the Sleeping Maiden (Spící panna) ridge and Bezděz castle hill to the south.

How to reach the summit

• Dobranov (where the road ends) — across a meadow, easy walk, no marked trail
• Nearest marked trail (green) passes about 2 km to the north, via Mariánská výšina

Streams draining from the hill feed the Dobranovský potok, which flows into the Ploučnice river — a small but telling detail about this quiet corner of the Czech countryside.
