Witkula (736 m a.s.l.) is a compact but characterful peak in the Małe Pieniny range, sitting right on the Polish-Slovak border. It won't dazzle you with open panoramas from the very top, but its narrow, rocky ridge smothered in hazel shrubs and dwarf trees has a wonderfully wild, untamed feel.

The ridge itself is the main attraction here — jagged rock outcrops peek through dense scrub, giving the summit a secretive, almost enchanted atmosphere. The hazel thicket that covers the crest blocks the views at the top, but just a short walk east brings you down to the Danielka saddle, where the landscape opens up beautifully toward Jarmuта peak and the town of Szczawnica below. In spring the whole ridge is lush and green; in autumn the hazels turn a warm gold that makes the walk feel like something out of a fairy tale.

• Starting from Droga Pienińska — blue trail, via Szafranówka and Durbaszka toward Wysokie Skałki; approx. 2 h 40 min ascending, 2 h 20 min descending; difficulty: moderate.

• The Polish-Slovak state border runs along the Witkula ridge — the trail follows it closely without requiring you to cross into Slovakia.
• The Polish slopes of Witkula fall within the municipal boundaries of Szczawnica, Małopolska region.

Just 300 metres to the northwest, separated by a small grassy saddle, stands Szafranówka — combining both peaks into a single outing is the classic way to explore this corner of the Małe Pieniny.
