Wielki Kopieniec is a quiet, fully forested peak tucked into a remote corner of the Western Tatras, where the Chochołowska and Starorobociańska valleys meet. This is a destination for hikers who crave solitude and untouched wilderness, far from the crowds of the popular Tatra trails.

The mountain's characteristic dome-like shape gives it its name — in the local Podhale dialect, 'kopieniec' means a hill shaped like a mound, and indeed from Polana Chochołowska it looks exactly like that: a forested hump at the foot of the nearby Kominiarski Wierch. Its slopes descend into the Chochołowska and Starorobociańska valleys, as well as into the wild Krowiniec gully (also known as Krowi Żleb), cut into the northern slopes of Trzydniowiański Wierch. In summer, dense montane forest wraps the whole mountain in cool shade, while in winter the area turns into a peaceful, snow-covered wilderness where you're more likely to spot animal tracks than other hikers.
