Wielka Kopa Koprowa is the highest peak of the Liptovské kopy group, a dome-shaped, grassy mountain reaching 2052 m. It's a place for those who appreciate wild, seldom-visited corners of the Tatras, far from the crowds.

The summit has a gentle, dome-like shape with a grassy surface of about 3000 m², built from white granites with gneiss intrusions. Traces of glacial activity remain visible here – ridge trenches and other post-glacial landforms. Shepherds from Kokava and Východná once grazed sheep here, and pastoral records mention this mountain as early as the 17th century. In winter, massive avalanches sweep down its slopes, making it a dangerous place during the colder months.

How to reach the summit

• The peak lies within a strict nature reserve and has been off-limits to tourists since 1949 – there are no marked approach trails.

• The area is under strict nature protection – climbing the summit is prohibited.
• In winter the terrain is exposed to major avalanches.
• The first recorded winter tourist ascent took place on 3 March 1912 (Józef Grabowski with companions).

Although the summit remains closed to hikers today, its history stretches back to shepherding times and scientific research carried out by Polish geographers in the 1920s and 1930s.
