Great Granacka Turnia is one of the boldest rock towers in the Granaty Wielickie massif, rising to 2318 (some sources say 2344) metres in the Slovak High Tatras. It's a striking, jagged peak — but one that keeps hikers firmly at bay.

The turret towers above the Velická Valley, flanked by neighbouring formations such as Mała Granacka Turnia and Dwoista Turnia, connected via the Granacka Ławka ledge. The scenery here is raw and dramatic, typical of the high Tatra ridgelines, where rocky ribs and notches create a maze that only experienced alpinists can navigate.

How to reach the summit

• The summit of Great Granacka Turnia cannot be reached by regular hiking trails — only technical climbing routes lead to the top.
• The first summer ascent was recorded in 1901, and the first winter ascent in 1925.

Historically known as Sławkowska Turnia, its old German and Hungarian names honoured Eduard Blásy and the Kraków canon Józef Krukowski.
