Wielicki Peak (2,319 m a.s.l.) is a rocky summit sitting in the main ridge of the High Tatras in Slovakia — not the tallest around, but one with a striking presence and a well-earned reputation among mountaineers. Though it can only be reached with a licensed mountain guide, its silhouette is a familiar sight from the popular Poľský hrebeň saddle nearby.

Flanked by Lavínový štít (2,606 m) to the south and Východná Vysoká (2,428 m) to the east, the peak rises above the beautiful Velická Valley on its southern side. The summit offers a full panoramic view across the High Tatras' peaks and valleys, and on clear days you can spot the Volovské Hills and mountain ranges in southern Poland. The terrain is rocky and demanding, giving the place a raw, alpine character in every season.

How to reach the summit:

• Tatranská Polianka — green trail towards Sliezsky dom mountain hut, then blue trail via Litvorová Valley and Prielom saddle towards the peak — demanding; the summit itself is accessible only with a licensed mountain guide

Practical information:

• The summit can only be reached with a licensed mountain guide
• The peak lies within Tatra National Park and the Bielovodská dolina and Velická dolina nature reserves — hiking is permitted on marked trails only
• Sliezsky dom mountain hut is located just south of the peak, offering accommodation and refreshments

The first recorded ascent was made in 1905 by A. Grósz and companions via the ridge from Velické sedlo — and the bold 'Direttissima' of the north face was conquered as late as 1973, rated V+ A2.
