Veterné (1,442 m) is a windswept, treeless summit in the Lúčanská Malá Fatra range — a place where the name says it all. Its bare, plateau-like top rewards hikers with a sweeping 360-degree panorama rarely matched in this part of Slovakia.

Located in the southern half of the range, within the Lúčanské Veterné hole subunit, the peak straddles the border between the Žilina and Martin districts. The summit area is notably flat and free of forest, opening up an all-round view: to the south you can admire the southern part of the Lúčanská Fatra and the Žilina basin, and on clear days the panorama stretches to the Moravian-Silesian Beskids, Javorníky, part of the White Carpathians, Vtáčnik, the Kremnica Hills and the Veľká Fatra. Lower slopes are cloaked in mixed forest, with dense patches of bilberry bushes along the way. Western slopes feed streams flowing into the Kuneradský potok, while the southern slopes form the springhead area of the Bystrička stream. It's a wonderful place in every season — open grassy ridges in summer, golden hues in autumn, and biting wind in winter that fully justifies the mountain's name ('windy').

Fun fact: Veterné sits on the southern edge of the highest part of the Lúčanská Fatra, known as Martinské hole, making it one of the best viewpoints in the entire range.
