Veľký Choč (1,611 m a.s.l.) is the highest and most iconic peak of the Choč Mountains in Slovakia — a bold, irregular pyramid that stands out on the skyline and can be spotted all the way from Štrba and across the whole Lower Orava region. Reach the top and you are rewarded with a full 360-degree panorama that stretches into Poland and Moravia on a clear day.

The massif has a rugged character: its rocky faces and ridges give it a dramatic look from every angle, while the summit itself is draped in dwarf pine. The southern slope rising from Valaská Dubová is relatively gentle, while the northern flanks above Lúčky drop away in steep cliffs. In good weather, the view takes in the Malá Fatra, Oravská Magura, Oravské Beskydy, the Western Tatras, Low Tatras and the northern part of the Veľká Fatra — a reward well worth the effort in any season. The mountain has drawn botanists, zoologists, geologists, cavers and ecologists for generations, and its unique silhouette has inspired Slovak writers and painters alike.
