Veľká lúka (1,475 m a.s.l.) is the highest peak of the Lúčanská part of Malá Fatra — a broad, grassy summit ridge that rewards you with one of the most sweeping 360-degree panoramas in the entire range. If open skies and far-reaching views are what you are after, this is your peak.

The summit is elongated and meadow-like rather than rocky, giving it a gentle, almost plateau-like feel. Patches of dwarf pine and extensive bilberry heathland cover the slopes, while boggy peat areas along the ridge can become genuinely tricky after rain. On a clear day the view stretches across Malá Fatra and Veľká Fatra, the Žilina and Turiec basins, and — when conditions are perfect — all the way to Babia hora, Pilsko, Veľký Choč, the peaks of the Western Tatras, Lysá hora, Kněhyně and Smrk in the Moravian-Silesian Beskids, and Veľká Rača in the Kysuce Beskids. The International Long-Distance Trail E3 passes right over the summit.

Veľká lúka sits on the border of the Martin city cadastral area and the village of Stránske — a summit that bridges the Turiec and Žilina worlds and lets you admire both at once.
