Úplaz (1,301 m a.s.l.) is the northernmost grassy summit on the main ridge of the Lúčanská Malá Fatra range — a peak that punches well above its weight when it comes to views. Standing here, you get sweeping panoramas over the Žilina Basin, the city of Martin, and on a clear day even the distant Tatra peaks.

The summit forms a large massif together with its neighbour Malý Minčol (1,330 m). The slopes are mostly covered in spruce and mixed forest, giving way to open, grassy terrain at the top. The main ridge running from the Strečno Gorge all the way to Veľká lúka (1,476 m) passes right through Úplaz. In summer the breezy summit offers wide-open space and long sightlines; in autumn the forests below blaze with colour. In favourable conditions you can see across Liptov to the Western, High and Low Tatras, as well as Veľký Choč, the Orava and Kysuce Beskydy, and westward to the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy with Lysá hora.

Located just 5 km west of Vrútky, Úplaz owes its exceptional far-reaching views to its position along the axis of the upper Váh river valley — on a clear day the line of sight stretches all the way to the Tatra mountains.
