Thierberg is a modest 721-metre peak rising above Kufstein, straddling the Austrian-German border near Kiefersfelden. It's a place where history and nature meet, surrounded by a cluster of scenic lakes - Egelsee, Hechtsee, Längsee and Pfrillsee.

At the summit you'll find the ruins of Thierberg Castle, built around 1280, which later became a popular pilgrimage site. Right beside it stands the Thierbergkapelle chapel, cared for by a hermit for centuries. A wooden staircase inside the ruin leads up to a newly built roof platform offering a 360° panorama over the Inn Valley. The whole area has a gentle, forested character, making it a relaxed outing suitable for all seasons - lakeside swimming in summer, quiet contemplative walks in autumn and winter.

• The castle ruin can be climbed internally via a wooden staircase, added in the early 2000s.

Fun fact: Thierberg gave its name to the once-independent village and cadastral community of Thierberg, later incorporated into Kufstein.
