Szalony Wierch (2061 m a.s.l.) is the third highest peak in the Belianske Tatry — a range of limestone, grass-covered summits on the Slovak side of the Tatra Mountains. While the summit itself is off-limits today, the trail crossing its slopes is one of the most rewarding walks in this quieter corner of the Tatras.

The peak rises in the eastern part of the Belianske Tatry, tucked between Široká Bielska Saddle and Šialená Saddle. The scenery here is gentler than in the High Tatras — wide alpine meadows, grassy ridges and sweeping views over the Javorová and Kežmarská valleys below. Spring brings vivid alpine flowers to the slopes, while autumn turns the hillsides to gold and russet. The atmosphere is peaceful and unhurried, a welcome contrast to the busier trails elsewhere in the Tatras.

• Dolina do Regli valley (Tatranská Kotlina village) — red trail, approx. 3 hrs 55 min one way (8.4 km, 1075 m ascent), moderate difficulty. The route passes through Široká Valley, over Široká Bielska Saddle, along the slopes of Szalony Wierch and through Szalony Prechod to Sedlo pod Kopou. Return by the same route takes approx. 3 hrs 10 min.

• Szalony Wierch lies within a strict nature reserve of TANAP — reaching the actual summit is prohibited.
• The red trail running along its slopes is an official educational trail (Monkova dolina path) and is open to visitors.

The name — meaning roughly 'Crazy Peak' — was historically given to summits considered tiresome and steep to climb. A curious reminder of darker times: near the end of World War II, German soldiers built a bunker in the ridge here, connected by telephone line to Javorina — traces of it can still be found in the terrain.
