Steinberg is a modest but charming hill in the Eastern Upper Lusatia region of Saxony, rising above the Zittau Basin near the village of Wittgendorf. At just 353 metres, it's an easy, peaceful outing perfect for a relaxed half-day trip — and curiously, another hill of the exact same name and similar landscape lies just one kilometre to the east.

The rounded summit is forested, forming the southern tip of the Oberwald woodland. Birch, wild pear and aspen trees dominate, while the forest floor is carpeted with bedstraw, blueberries, hawkweed, clover, sticky catchfly and spring cinquefoil — making spring and summer especially rewarding for nature lovers. The gentle lower slopes are still farmed, giving the whole area a soft, rural character that changes pleasantly with the seasons.
