Hutberg is a small but geologically fascinating peak near Oderwitz, rising roughly 100 metres above the Landwasser valley. Its modest height of 405.2 metres hides a dramatic volcanic past that reveals itself the closer you look.

The summit is only sparsely wooded, offering pleasant open views over the surrounding Oderwitz basin. The standout feature here is the rock itself: vertical columns of nepheline basanite, remnants of ancient volcanic activity, which have weathered and broken apart into distinctive scree fields of rounded basalt boulders. Together with the nearby, almost equally high Pferdeberg, Hutberg forms part of a connected basalt sheet, making it a rewarding destination for anyone curious about geology, and a relaxed, easy walk in any season.
