Špaččí vrch is a low, standalone hill with a basalt core, tucked into the forests of the Cvikov Hills in northern Bohemia, right next to the village of Radvanec. At just 360 metres above sea level it won't challenge your legs, but this quiet corner of the Czech countryside has a story worth discovering — including an old sandstone quarry hidden near its summit.

The symmetrical, forested hill offers a calm, unhurried atmosphere far from crowded trails. Just below the top you'll find the exposed walls of a quarry dating back to 1880-1881, with the year 1886 carved into one of the rock faces — a quiet trace of the people who once worked here. In spring and summer the mixed forest is lush and green, autumn paints the slopes in warm colours, and winter brings a peaceful stillness broken only by birdsong.

How to reach the summit

• Radvanec cemetery — no marked trail, easy and undemanding climb to the summit stone
• Radvanec village — nearest marked trail is the blue one, 600 metres to the east

Practical information

• No marked hiking trail leads directly to the summit
• The Radvanec cemetery borders the southern side of the hill, reached by a road branching off the route connecting Sloup v Čechách and Nový Bor
• Cycle route 3056 runs along that road

Interesting fact: the hill's old German name was Starberg, and some maps still label it Nad hřbitovem, meaning 'Above the cemetery'.
