Sokolica (747 m a.s.l.) is one of the most iconic peaks of the Pieniny range — a dramatic rocky bastion with near-vertical southern walls plunging 310 metres straight down to the Dunajec River Gorge. Small in elevation but enormous in character, it rewards every hiker with views that stay with you long after the descent.

From the summit you can take in the full sweep of the Dunajec Gorge, the Central and Lesser Pieniny ranges, the Spis Magura, and on clear days the Tatra Mountains — both the Belianske Tatry and the High Tatras. The southern cliffs drop in a sheer 100-metre wall, and just below the summit a pointed rock formation called the Sugar Loaf catches the eye, especially when seen from the Pieniny Road below. Growing along the ridge are several relic Scots pines estimated at over 550 years old — among the oldest pines in Poland. Rare limestone-loving plants cling to the rock faces, including alpine aster and rock alyssum, while wallcreepers and kestrels nest in the cliffs.

• Entry to the summit itself requires a paid ticket — it also covers Trzy Korony on the same day.
• The final stretch to the top is a short side path secured with metal handrails — about 40 m of elevation gain, roughly 7 minutes up.
• The peak lies within Pieniny National Park.
• The trail from Szczawnica crosses the Dunajec by a small ferry (Nowy Przewóz) — factor in waiting time at the crossing.

The name Sokolica comes from the falcons — 'sokoły' in Polish — that once nested here, and the peak has drawn visitors for well over 150 years. A journalist in 1880 noted that only strong, experienced mountain walkers dare to climb it, which makes reaching the top today feel like a satisfying achievement.
