Sielnická hora (1,052 m a.s.l.) is a peaceful, off-the-beaten-path summit in the Choč Mountains of northern Slovakia, rewarding those willing to venture beyond marked trails with surprisingly wide-open views and true mountain solitude. If you enjoy a bit of adventure and want to escape the crowds, this is your kind of place.

The summit sits at the heart of a broad massif flanked by the Sestrčská Valley to the east and the Kalamenianka Valley to the west. Higher neighbours — Pravnáč (1,206 m), Heliaš (1,186 m), Havrania (1,130 m) and Ostré (1,105 m) — frame the eastern and western skyline, but the forest here is broken up by past logging, opening up fine views to the north towards the Skorušinské Hills, Oravská Magura and the Orava Beskids, and southward to the Low Tatras and part of the Veľká Fatra. The area is beautifully colourful in autumn and refreshingly quiet throughout the year.

• From Liptovská Anna village — red trail over Sestrč summit (Liptov Castle) and Poľana saddle; moderate difficulty

• No marked trail leads directly to the summit — the final section follows forest tracks or a short detour from the blue trail at Poľana saddle
• The peak lies on the boundary of Ružomberok and Liptovský Mikuláš districts, on the cadastral lands of Kalameny and Liptovská Sielnica villages

Just a short walk away, the neighbouring peak of Sestrč (1,000 m) carries the romantic ruins of Liptov Castle on its very top — a perfect historical bonus to round off your hike.
