Ruska (1612 m a.s.l.) rises in the heart of the Gorgany massif — one of the wildest and most untamed ranges of the Ukrainian Carpathians. This is a mountain that rewards those who seek genuine wilderness: dense forests at the base, sprawling dwarf-pine thickets higher up, and the rugged boulder fields that define the Gorgany's unmistakable character.

Sitting on the Bratkivskyi ridge between the summits of Mala Bratkivska to the northwest and Chorna Kleva to the east, Ruska offers a sense of remote mountain solitude that is increasingly rare. The northern face is steep and uncompromising, while the southern slope descends more gently to a short saddle linking the main peak with a local sub-summit at 1649 m. The ridge views stretch across rolling forested hills in every direction — spectacular in summer green, ablaze in autumn colours, and beautifully austere under a winter snowpack.

• From Chorna Tysa or Bystrytsya villages — approach through forest, then through dwarf pine to the ridge; moderate difficulty.
• Along the Bratkivskyi ridge from Chorna Kleva — a ridge walk that passes close to Ruska's base, where a spring on the left side of the trail offers a chance to refill water supplies.

• The peak sits on the boundary between Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia oblasts — check current regulations regarding any border zone restrictions before your trip.
• A natural spring is located near the foot of the mountain on the left side of the trail when approaching from Chorna Kleva.

The Gorgany massif is one of the least-visited corners of the entire Carpathian arc — reaching Ruska means stepping into a landscape that feels genuinely untouched.
